A few months back I came across a TED Talk with the same title as this post. While I found this talk interesting and convincing, I didn’t jump into actions. I thought about it for a day and moved on.

But it had been lingering at the back of my mind and the more I went through self-tooling myself and identifying avenues to level-up, this concept seems all the more powerful now. So, as I revisit this, I summarize the gist of it here.

By putting in place the nuts and bolts of a personalised self-education system, one can plug into a super-charged, life-long learning process. There are 3 key aspects to The Wheel of Modern Education:

  1. Self-educate: This is the first and obvious step to retooling yourself. Immerse in books, trainings, (online) courses and ensure you are constantly learning. Learn across disciplines and pursue diverse interests to enrich your life.
  2. Find your tribe: The less-obvious next step is to surround yourself with a tribe of like-minded individuals. Rubbing shoulders with a passionate group pursuing similar interests aids with internalization of ideas & takes your learning to the next level. Think Focus groups, Masterminds etc.
  3. Engage in Deep Immersions: To complete the cycle of education, one must also identify opportunities to connect with the tribe in short intense sessions. These immersions are enjoyable, provide deep experiences and stretch your mind beyond the self-perceived limits, in your areas of interest. These include events like the one run by Mindvalley.

Once you stop learning, you start dying. — Albert Einstein

What I found interesting was the self-reinforcing cycle one can achieve by adopting the above steps. This then completes the loop by energising you to go back to self-education with newer learning goals. Checkout the video here.
