Driven by the goals

Approaching the end of Fall, the weather’s started getting cold. Today, it was dark by late afternoon & there was a heavy bout of rain. Thats when I noticed a boy in his teens, who was going around our community, door to door.

His t-shirt fully drenched and without a jacket or umbrella, he patiently waited for someone to answer each door. Then he scribbled down notes in a piece of paper & moved to the next home, while the streets were all deserted.

Curious, I walked up to him, to check. Smiling, he said that he was trying to get people out to vote in the NJ state elections today. From his t-shirt, I could see he was a Democrat supporter. Visibly driven & on a purpose, he excused himself to do this job all over again in the next street, braving the weather.

That got me thinking, how do you inspire with your leadership that the team on the ground is motivated. How do you enlist supporters who voluntarily own up your stated goal. And without any supervision, are charged enough to go out and achieve the mission, even on a (metaphoric) rainy day.
